Let’s change

The worst year yet? A lot of people would say so: “I’m glad to leave 2020 behind”, or “F*ck you 2020”, or whatever the trending caption of the moment is. 2020 has been a difficult year, but without it, we wouldn’t be where we are now. It’s shaken up all of us. And sometimes we need a shake-up. 2020 changed be me for the better in many ways – some good things, some great things, and some painful things that I wish would have panned out in a different way. I haven’t even come to the pandemic thing yet.

I’m hopeful for 2021, just as hopeful as I was at the start of last year. 2020 delivered in many ways and I’m pushing for ’21 to do the same. The attitude of wishing last year to go to hell is beyond me; the shift from one day to another makes no difference… I’m talking about all the posts on social media from people glad out of their minds that 2021 is here, and that 2021 couldn’t come any sooner. What’s that all about? The problems we had last year are still here! What we need to do is make the best of every situation. I’m not quoting Jack Dawson from Titanic, I’m just saying that we need to change the way we function.

Sure, obviously I’m glad 2021 is here. I was, however, just as glad on New Year’s Eve. I’m excited about making the most of this year and getting as much out of it as I can, and out of myself. I am one of those irritatingly positive people; I’m excited every Sunday just because I know a new week is starting! I urge everyone reading this to push for the best in your situation – you have a lot of energy inside – enough to get you out of any situation no matter how dark it seems for the moment. It’s not always easy, but every step counts, even if it’s just about changing one little thought in your mind. (I’m still not quoting Jack Dawson). And the sun does rise every day, no matter how bad last year (or anything else) was. That alone is a reason to feel purpose and to be thankful.

Let’s push for a continuation of the good things from last year and make ’21 a great one. Don’t curse 2020, it was only a bunch of days in a calendar. You are the one living your life, and you have the right to do whatever you want with the time you are blessed with. Don’t waste it.
